How the Color Filter Works
Wallhaven analyzes the color histogram of every image and indexes the dominant colors. When you filter by color, the search returns wallpapers where the specified color appears prominently in the composition — not necessarily as the only color, but as the most prevalent one.
Tips for Color Searching
Match your accent color: Copy your system's accent color hex code and paste it directly into Wallhaven's color field. Results will show wallpapers where that hue is dominant, creating a cohesive desktop look.
Try adjacent hues: If results are sparse for a precise hex, try shifting the hue slightly — color indexing groups nearby shades together, so a slightly lighter or darker value may surface more results.
Combine with keywords: Color filters stack with keyword search. Searching for "nature" with a green color filter returns green-dominant nature wallpapers specifically — forests, grass, mossy scenes, and more.
